Setup > Activation

Device activation is a software licensing requirement of the CRISTAL WMS. The number of devices that is allowed to access/update a database is restricted by the number of licenses purchased.

A device must be activated against the database to be able to access and create transactions in that database. The number of devices that are licensed for a particular database can be queried from the Administration > System > System Configuration > Site License menu option on the Desktop WMS:

On the device, you can go to the Setup > Activation tab to activate the device. If you do not, when you run the WMS RF application, the following warning message will be displayed:

When you click the OK button, the program will send you to the Setup > Activation form automatically.

Device Name

This is the name that you want to assign to the device. You can modify this and click the Change Name button to change the device name.

Device ID

This is a unique identifier specific to the device. The WMS RF licensing is based on this device ID. The device ID is read-only, and cannot be changed by the user.

Click on the Activate Device button to activate the device. If the activation is successful, you will see the following message:

If the activation was unsuccessful, the following message will be displayed instead:

Once a device has been successfully activated against a database, the Activate Device button will be disabled. The button's caption will also be changed to indicate that the device has already been activated:

On the Desktop WMS, the menu option Administration > System > System Configuration > Devices Registry displays the list of devices that have been activated for that database.

Reminder: A device has to be activated for each database that it needs to access.
