The Replenishment process involves transferring goods from a storage rack location into the pickface locations. The RF process works in conjunction with the he main Desktop WMS function.
To run the Replenishment programs, the operator must be granted access to the "Replenishment" task in the User Groups > Works > Tasks and Priority tab:
The User Groups > Works tab is also used to configure the warehouse areas that the operator is permitted to operate in. An operator who has the privilege to run the Replenishment program, but who has no privilege to work in a particular zone, will not be able to perform replenishment taks from the forbidden zone.
A Replenishment process is useful for handling goods that are small and can be handpicked, and are mostly ordered in low qtys of a few pieces per sales order. These items can be stored in Pickface locations, which are usually shelves or storage racks on level 1. Items in Pickfaces are always easily reachable by the picker and thus can be hand picked (i.e. do not need to use forklifts or other pallet handling equipment).
The size of the pickface will determine the number of pieces that can be placed in the pickface. For example, a full pallet may contain 1000 packets of an item. However, a shelf used as a pickface may only hold 200 packets at a time. If the shelf is emptied, we can only replenish the pickface with 200 packets from a new pallet. The remaining 800 packets in the pallet will need to be returned to its original storage rack location.
The 200 packets that is used to replenish the shelf is known as the Replenishment Qty.
In some warehouses, they reserve all storage rack locations on level 1 as the pickface. Pallets are stored on level 2 and higher on the storage racks. When a pallet on level 1 is emptied, an entire pallet is relocated from one of the storage racks on the higher levels to the pickface on level 1. For such setups, the Replenishment Qty is actually the pallet qty.
Normally, a pickface needs to be replenished when it is emptied. However, a warehouse may want to pre-empt this by having the WMS create a replenishment task before the pickface is emptied.
Using the previous example, we can set the Replenishment Level at 10 packets. This means that when the qty in the pickface drops to 10 packets or less, a replenishment task will be automatically created to replenish the pickface with 200 packets from the storage rack area.
A static pickface is a location that has been specifically designated as the pickface for a specifc item.
For example, you can designate location PF01 to be the pickface for the item "SCREWS", location PF02 for the item "BOLTS", and location PF03 for the item "NAILS". The configuration of these 3 static pickfaces will thus be fixed. The WMS will not use location PF01 for storing either "BOLTS" or "NAILS", or location PF03 for storing "SCREWS" and "BOLTS".
Because static pickfaces are tied to products, you use the Product Definition > Pickfaces tab to configure the pickface locations for each product.
