Installation

The CRISTAL WMS RF application can only be installed on Windows Mobile devices running either Windows Mobile 5.x or 6.x. It is not compatible with earlier versions (Pocket PC 2002/2003). Although not officially supported, the WMS RF application can run on Windows CE 5.

This manual assumes that the reader knows how to run Microsoft ActiveSync to synchronise the device with the desktop PC, configure the device Wi-Fi network card to connect to the network (and to the SQL Server), and configure the device for barcode scanning.

Pre-Requisites

  • Windows Mobile 5.x, 6.x, Windows CE 5 device
  • .NET Compact Framework 3.5 (NETCF35) installation CAB file
  • SQLCE (SQLCE35) installation CAB file
  • SQL Client driver (SQL20) installation CAB file
  • CRISTAL WMS RF3 installation CAB file
  • CRISTAL WMS database network connection information

Installing the CAB Files

1. Download the NETCF35, SQLCE35 and SQL20 installation (CAB) files from this location:

http://support.cristalsolutions.com.sg/instdisk/CRISTAL_WMS_RF/CRISTAL_WMS_RF3_DRIVERS/Device/

2. Download the WMSRF3 installation (CAB) file from this location:

http://support.cristalsolutions.com.sg/instdisk/CRISTAL_WMS_RF/CRISTAL_WMS_RF3_Setup/

3. Install the CAB files in the following order:

  • NETCF35 - NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab
  • NETCF35 - NETCFv35.Messages.EN.wm.cab
  • SQL20 - sql.dev.ENU.ppc.wce5.armv4i.cab
  • SQL20 - sql.ppc.wce5.armv4i.cab
  • SQLCE35 - sqlce.dev.ENU.ppc.wce5.armv4i.cab
  • SQLCE35 - sqlce.ppc.wce5.armv4i.cab
  • SQLCE35 - sqlce.ppc.wce5.armv4i.cab
  • WMSRF3 - Setup_WMS_RF3_WinMobile5.cab

4. After the WMSRF3 installation CAB file has been executed, the WMS_RF3.EXE executable file will have been installed in the \Program Files\wms_rf3 directory on the device. This will typically be an older version of the executable file.

Download the latest version of the WMS_RF3.EXE executable file from this location:

http://support.cristalsolutions.com.sg/instdisk/CRISTAL_WMS_RF/CRISTAL_WMS_RF3_Updates/

and copy the new executable file into the device - overwriting the old one.

Once this is done, we can click on the WMS RF3 shortcut icon on the Start menu to continue with the rest of the installation.

Setting Up the Database Connection

1. Whenever the WMSRF3 application is executed, it will read configuration settings from the WMSCE.SDF file located in the same directory as the WMS_RF3.EXE executable.

If the WMSCE.SDF file does not exists, it will be created with blank settings.

The WMSRF3 application will first read the database connection string from the WMSCE.SDF file, and then attempt to connect to the CRISTAL WMS database. If this fails, an error message will be displayed warning that the network configuration is not valid. The program will then automatically go to the Setup > Connections entry screen. Enter the appropriate network connection parameters and click the Apply button to save and activate the settings.

2. After the network connection has been established, switch to the Activation tab to activate the device against the database. If you do not activate the device now, you will be required to activate the device the next time you run the WMS_RF3.EXE executable.

See also: Setup > Activation

3. Once the database connection has been established and the device has been activated, the basic installation is complete. You may want to perform additional setup modifications on the other tabs in the Setup form (e.g. "Settings", "Reports", etc). Otherwise, click the Ok button on the top-right corner of the Setup form to exit the program.
